New player basics

Your first ten minutes

1. Open the Options and turn on Auto Loot (Interface, Controls). It saves thousands of clicks.
2. Turn on Show Action Bars for the extra bars and drag your spells onto them so everything you use is on a key.
3. Accept every quest with a yellow ! near you. Quests are most of your experience until the 60s.
4. Kill things near the quest giver until the yellow ? appears, then hand it in. Grey quests give almost nothing, so skip them.
5. Sell grey (poor quality) items to any vendor. Early on, this is most of your money.

Every two levels

1. At level 2, 4, 6... visit your class trainer in your starting town or capital city. New spell ranks are a big part of getting stronger.
2. Set your Hearthstone at the innkeeper in each new town you quest from. It takes you back there every hour.
3. Talk to every flight master you pass (the bird or bat icon) so you can fly back later.

Level 5 to 10: professions

1. Pick two main professions. Easy money pairs: Mining + Skinning, Herbalism + Skinning, or Herbalism + Mining. Crafting ones (Blacksmithing, Tailoring...) cost gold while you level them.
2. Also learn the three secondary skills: First Aid, Cooking and Fishing. They don't take a profession slot, and First Aid saves you from dying a lot. See our First Aid 1 to 300.
3. Buy a Mining Pick from a trade goods vendor if you took Mining, or a Skinning Knife for Skinning. Herbalism needs no tool.

Level 10: talents

1. At level 10 you get your first talent point, then one more every level. Open the talent window with N.
2. Put points into one tree at first. Spreading them out early makes you weaker.
3. Talents can be reset at your class trainer for a fee if you change your mind.

Bags and money

1. Replace your starter bags as soon as you can. Linen Cloth bags from a tailor, or 6 to 8 slot bags from a general goods vendor, all help.
2. Don't vendor cloth, ore or herbs: other players buy them at the Auction House in capital cities.
3. Check the Supply board on ONN: guild members post what they need and you can fill requests.

Your first dungeon (around level 15+)

1. Find a group in #lfg in ONN chat, or with the raid planner for bigger groups.
2. Grab the dungeon's quests before you go. They're worth a lot of experience and gear. See our The Deadmines and Wailing Caverns guides.
3. Know your job: tanks hold the monsters' attention, healers keep everyone alive, DPS kill what the tank is fighting. Don't pull extra monsters.

Tips

• Rested experience (the blue bar) builds while you're logged out in an inn or city. Log out there for double experience on kills.
• Dying is cheap early: run back as a ghost to your body. Use the spirit healer only if you're far away, it damages your gear.
