Mage Frost guide
How to play Frost in WoW: Forever: what to press, which stats to chase, the talent build level by level, and the gear and dungeons to aim for.
Overzicht
Frost is the mage's control spec and the usual pick for leveling. You slow everything with Frostbolt, freeze mobs with Frost Nova and get big crits on frozen targets with Shatter. It is safe, simple and easy on mana.
Good at
- Very safe to level with
- Slows and roots keep mobs away
- Big crits on frozen targets
- Ice Block and Cold Snap at 30
Watch out for
- Lower burst than Fire
- Some mobs are immune to slows and roots
- Blizzard and Cone of Cold are weaker in Forever
How to play it
In order of priority for levels 20 to 30, on one target:
- FrostboltYour main spell. It slows the target too.
- Frost NovaFreeze mobs that reach you. Shatter gives your spells 50% more crit chance against frozen targets.
- Fire BlastInstant damage on a frozen target or to finish a mob.
- Cone of ColdFrom level 26 for a quick burst on mobs in front of you.
- Ice BlockYour life saver at 30. Cold Snap resets your other frost cooldowns.
Several targets
- BlizzardFrom level 20 for packs. Arctic Reach makes it reach farther.
- Frost NovaFreeze the pack, step back, then cast Blizzard.
- Cone of ColdFinish off a pack that is close to you.

- The Stockade levels 24 to 32
Tips
- Frost Channeling cuts the cost and threat of your frost spells, so you can cast much longer.
- Ice Block has a 5 minute cooldown, and Cold Snap can reset it.
- Ice Shards doubles your frost crit bonus, so pair crits with Shatter for big hits.
- Keep Frost Armor or Ice Armor up at all times.
- Conjure water and food between pulls so you never pay for drinks.
Macros
Make a macro with /macro in game, paste the text, and drag it to your bar.
Polymorph on your focus if you have one, otherwise your target.
